About Kathleen Hartman

Kathleen Hartman KATHLEEN HARTMAN Artist Statement: People, animals and nature are what intrigue me. I especially love painting the innocent expressions of children. My focus is on capturing a look, or a feeling, or just a moment. Usually my inspiration comes from what I imagine that person is feeling or thinking and I want to create that either through color or expression. The beauty I find in nature also inspires many of my pieces. Watercolor, pastel, and oils are my favorite media for creating art. My goal is to continue studying portraiture and the figure, and to learn how to create the best and most interesting designs possible. I believe art is an ongoing learning process and each day of painting brings new ways to express what we learn from that painting experience. As an artist, I want to make a connection with another person, in hopes they will see my inspiration, and to touch them in a way bringing back a memory, a feeling, a moment in time." Artist Biography: Being mostly self-taught Kathleen has been sketching everything and anything since she was a child. Her love of art continued through high school and she received the Student Art Award her senior year, and her love of art continued to grow. Kathleen had a strong foundation in design and studied fashion and interior design at college. But her first love was painting - people, animals, and nature. Usually it is the mood, expression, or pose that first captures her attention. Then once she begins the design she finds the painting takes on a personality of its own which moves her through the piece. Over the past 10-15 years Kathleen has gotten back to painting, and has taken and continues to take numerous workshops with well-known national as well as local artists. Her mediums of choice are watercolor, pastel, and oil. Kathleen has exhibited with the art groups she belongs to in PA, as well as in FL.
